Unawatuna was our rest day. We didn't go anywhere other than the town nearby. Where we stayed, Hotel Zeilan, was a little off the beaten track yet it was worth it. Our room was on the ground floor with a little balcony facing the sea. A few steps take you to a platform and deck chairs to sit and gaze. The weather was rainy and humid but it was nice to see stormy seas.
It's set back away from the bars and restaurants, and because it was off-season, there weren't a lot of people about. A walk to the main beach takes ten minutes or so. We went for a seafood dinner here and in the daytime before we left, had a stroll on the beach. The weather was still rainy.
The road to the main part of town was along a dark road. We felt safe and had a torch. We were told that some lamposts have switches for pedestrians to turn the lights on. In the morning, after a cracking traditional Sri Lankan breakfast at Hotel Zeilan, we left for Galle.
P.S. There's a dog below. It's not a stray. Belongs to the owners.
