From Sigiriya, we made our way to Kandy in the middle of Sri Lanka, visiting a spectacular temple on the way. Heading into Kandy, we got stuck in a huge traffic jam and escaped the insanity, by diving into a shop and buying a sari and sarong, as you do, before rejoining the jam.
Because we were on a mad dash around the country, we wanted to maximise our day. Usually, we reach a destination, check in, faff about, and then go off and explore. But, this time, because we were doing one day per location, we had to jam stuff in and leave the hotel stuff until later.
After being bored to death in the traffic, we finally got into the centre of Kandy and went to the famous Temple of the Tooth. You have to pay to get in, and leave your shoes and wear socks or bare feet. Many rooms to explore and learn about the history. Glad we went there.
Afterwards, we checked in and had dinner. In the morning, we checked out and went to the Royal Botanical Garden and is the largest of its kind in Sri Lanka. This is well worth visiting. We spent about three hours there just wandering around. They even had tourist information readily available which is notable because it's so rare.
We stayed at Hotel 020 Kandy. This was a proper hotel and situated high up on a hill so the view was of the lake and city. There's a great rooftop pool with a bar.
