Hong Kong - Hap Mun Bay

Escapade

Just off Saikung is Hap Mun Bay (Half Moon Bay); a small beach with incredible views and the cleanest and clearest waters I've seen in Hong Kong. I've lived in Hong Kong for so many years and seen boat trips advertised to Hap Mun Bay but never visited.

I've decided to try and visit somewhere new in Hong Kong every weekend hence the boat trip to Half Moon Bay. Just 20 minutes boat journey from Saikung public pier and you hit this treasure. It's a small beach with a place to rent umbrellas, rubber rings etc., there's a basic refreshment kiosk, BBQ pits, lockers, toilets, showers, lifeguards, and an anti-shark protection net surrounding a designated swimming area.

The beach isn't enormous and it's wise to get there early to get your spot. Today we got there at around noon and it was OK. The weather was very hot and by the time we left, the beach was jammed. There's a fresh breeze and we didn't find the mossies to be a problem.

I was surprised by how clear and clean the water was here. Saw lots of little fish.

You can rent sea kayaks in Saikung. Beach them, go and get your refreshments and underachieve. It's so easy.
